“Are these still in style?…Am I too old for Uggs?”
Now that the weather is rapidly changing, we sadly have to swap out our open-toe sandals for closed-toe boots 👎🏾. Although cooler temps allow us to be more playful with our wardrobe, let’s just face it…nobody really LOVES the winter. So as we are layering on 2 shirts, leggings, pants, hoodie, puffer coat, scarf and skully (don’t act like it’s just me) what options do we really have for our feet? Yes there are knee boots in all colors and combat boots but I mean are they REALLY keeping our feet warm? I pondered on this one morning as I ripped through my closet in search for something fashionable but yet warm. And then it happened…right there on the top shelf of the closet in a big brown box, Ugg boots. As I grabbed the box and quickly put them on my feet, I went to look in the mirror and started to feel childish. All I kept thinking was, “Are these still in style?” “Am I too old for Uggs?”
Once upon a time, if you didn’t own a pair of these sheepskin boots, you was consider a fashion reject. Making Oprah’s Favorite Things list 4 times in the early 2000s, Ugg Classic Short boots was on the feet of every California girl in short shorts and almost every college student nationwide. Uggs are just so easy and comfortable; they could be worn with anything and in any season. But shortly after 2010, Uggs became a thing of the past and some people (mostly our boyfriends) HATED our favorite fury friends. Memes started to surface about Uggs being the winter “Netflix and Chill” uniform paired with black leggings and Starbucks. Now I can admit, this was a constant uniform for me while attending college during the winter months but you try getting fab for an 8am class in the dead of winter🤷🏾♀️.
So bring us back full circle, in today’s fashion groove, are Uggs still acceptable footwear?? Will I get side-eyes for walking out the house in them or are they only reserved for running errands and girls under the age of 16 years old.
