Janaye Furman + Louis Vuitton

This year Paris Fashion Week has been one for the books. Not only did a lot designers decide to swap their shows in New York for Paris *OUCH* Louis Vuitton decided to take it a step further. Under the creative director Nicolas Ghesquière, LV decided to set a different tone for its Spring 2018 show with their first African American model leading the runway.

Yes 21-year old Cali native Janaye Furman, who was discovered during a drama class performance, made her first catwalk debut for Proenza Schouler Fall 2017 show. Since being discovered, Furman has not only walk for LV, but she is now featured in the fashion house editorial and commercial campaigns.

Not only was this a first for LV, this was Furman first time ever leading a show. Talk about Black Girl Magic! It’s crazy that in 2017, we as African American still have to look at things like this has a huge deal. Black models opening for huge shows should be the norm. Hopefully LV has opened the eyes of a lot of designers to start putting black models in the forefront of not only their shows but their campaigns. But for right now, lets just rejoice for this small victory!
